Partnership Enables Organizations to Deploy No-Code Passwordless Authentication for Any Application

BOULDER, Colo., Dec. 1, 2022, Strata Identity, the Identity Orchestration Company, and HYPR, the Passwordless Company^TM, today announced a partnership that enables organizations to add passwordless multi-factor authentication (MFA) to any application without modifying its source code or writing custom code.

Passwordless authentication provides greater security and ease of use, and people are taking notice. According to a 2022 Forrester survey 67 percent of respondents are in the process of adopting passwordless security in their organizations. However, adding passwordless protection to a business’ entire suite of applications faces major obstacles, since every single app must be included in the effort, even those that don’t natively work with modern identity protocols.

Further compounding this challenge is that traditional MFA solutions aren’t up to the task of protecting legacy and homegrown applications from advanced attacks. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has released a new “Phishing Resistant MFA Fact Sheet” that calls out the immediate need for true passwordless protection of every app in critical risk sector organizations, regardless of app type.

In order to support passwordless authentication, legacy and custom-developed applications must be rewritten, which can take several months, cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and may be impossible if skill sets and source code are no longer available. The integration of the Strata Maverics platform and HYPR’s True Passwordless security platform eliminates this roadblock by decoupling apps from their hard-coded identity providers (IdP) and decoupling authentication from individual IdPs. This enables legacy apps to accept passwordless authentication and allows companies to simultaneously use multiple cloud IdPs.

Particularly challenging are applications that still use forms-based authentication against an LDAP directory. Strata brings the capability to not only enforce authentication providers like HYPR for these applications, but to do so in a way that allows the LDAP credential to be completely eliminated altogether. Legacy applications tied to directory-based passwords are traditionally a challenging hurdle to overcome in the journey to truly complete passwordless authentication, and Strata brings the necessary capabilities to quickly and easily overcome this challenge- typically with no changes required to the application.
